Greetings Friends:
“This one thing I do: forgetting those things which are behind… I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”. Phil. 3:13, 14.
PRESSING FORWARD… 1955… a new year and a challenge for us all. To each of you I wish a great New Year with God’s blessings upon you as you press forward for Him. Behind me is ten years in Rhodesia and the challenge is still to press forward.
I’ve seen…
… Africa changing, progressing, clamoring for education – taking on western civilization and growing more and more restless.
… the Gospel work in Africa – fathers have left their beer-pots, mothers have thrown away dirty bits of charms from around the necks of their babies, young people have left the heathen ways of their forefathers to follow Jesus.
… Satan working to thwart the Lord’s work – false cults and isms on the increase even in remote bush areas where the Gospel has gone before, doubts and questions assailing the minds of young Africa concerning the great Gospel truths and seeking something tangible.
… the African church slowly shaping out of which are coming evangelists and Christian teachers who are holding forth the Word of Life in some of the numerous scattered villages.
… God’s servants, the missionaries, laboring under all sorts of conditions and doing all kinds of work in order that the unreached might be reached.
… the Lighthouses, the Mission Stations, grow from a little mudbrick one or two room house in the bush to a station of several dwelling houses and other necessary buildings – most of the brick being laid by the missionary.
… the help your prayers have been to the missionary and to Africa, your faithfulness in giving that this great enterprise might be carried on, and the encouragement your letters have given the missionary.
Yes, all these things have I seen and the challenge is to press forward. African drums can be heard as people dance and drink to appease the spirits. Witch-doctors are still making a good living, villages are still unreached, the African church is still a child and opportunities for preaching and teaching are still abounding. Help us to continue forward for His Name’s Sake!
Pressing on for Him,
Eunice I. Ott
